Academy’s Harvest Festival collection donated to local food bank

Students at Theddlethorpe Academy took part in their Harvest Festival and donated the food collection to their local foodbank in Mablethorpe.

All of the pupils in the school participated in an assembly, where they sang a harvest song; ‘Cauliflower Fluffy’ and learned about the significance of a harvest. The assembly also taught the children about how local food banks assist local families and how far some of our food has to travel before it can be found on the shelves in the supermarket.

The students were spoken to about how a Harvest Festival is celebrated around the world across many different faiths and cultures. They learned how harvests take place at different times of the year in different countries, according to when their main harvest is.

The children were taught how the USA celebrate Thanksgiving as a national holiday every year in November as their Harvest Festival. We learned about Sukkot, the Jewish festival which celebrates the gathering of the harvest in October.

Each year, staff, pupils and their families show incredible generosity by donating an enormous amount of food, and this year was fantastic! The food donations are sent to the local food bank in Mablethorpe to help those most in need.

A very heartfelt thank you to everyone!
